17 Nov Argos men and women snag No. 3 seeds in upcoming NCAA Tournament
Fresh off its first Gulf South Conference title since 2013, West Florida learned who it will play in the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Tournament on Monday night.
The Argos earned a first-round bye and the third seed in Super Region 2. They take on No. 6 seed Chowan at 12 p.m. Sunday from the UWF Soccer Complex.
Meanwhile, after reaching the GSC semifinals, the UWF women’s soccer team also learned its bid. The Argos will make its 17th appearance in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament as a No. 3 seed in the South Region and play No. 6 Valdosta State.
That game is set for 12 p.m. Friday at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium on the campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach.

While the UWF men snapped a long conference drought this past Sunday, its opponent out of Murfreesboro, N.C. made history by capturing its program’s first-ever Conference Carolinas championship by defeating Francis Marion 2-1.
Winners of its last three matches, Chowan comes into Sunday’s playoff game with a 13-3-1 record. At 12-3-3, West Florida enters victorious in its last six matches, one of which ended in penalty kicks.
The winner of this match moves on to the third round scheduled for Dec. 2 or 3.
As for the women, UWF faces a conference opponent it has seen twice already this season. The Argos and Blazers played to a scoreless tie on Sept. 24 before West Florida picked up a 1-0 win at Valdosta State on Nov. 7 in the opening round of the GSC Tournament.
UWF is 12-3-2 while VSU is 11-6-1.
