05 Oct Beavers Set to Host Arizona State and Arizona
CORVALLIS, Ore. – For the first time in 20 days, Oregon State women’s soccer returns home to Lorenz Field, hosting Arizona State and Arizona. The Beavers battle the Sun Devils on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. before taking on the Wildcats on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. Live stats and a live stream will be available for both matches. Tickets for both matches are available for purchase ranging from $4-$6.
Last Time Out
The Beavers are returning from a road trip to California, where they battled No. 7 Stanford and California. On Sept. 30, Oregon State defeated nationally ranked Stanford, 2-1, in Stanford, Calif., for the first time in program history. Freshman Aaliyah Bluett scored her first collegiate goal in the 42nd minute of action, picking off a pass between two Stanford players and slipped a ball past the Cardinal goalie during a breakaway. Junior Sophie Conrad scored the game-winner for OSU in the 74th minute off senior Laura Galceran’s corner.
In Berkeley, Calif., the Beavers fell to Cal, 2-1, after giving up the deciding goal in the 81st minute. Brianna McReynolds scored Oregon State’s sole goal in the 33rd minute of action from a free kick 25 yards out.
Last Time Against Arizona State
Oregon State met Arizona State on Mar. 14, 2021 in Corvallis, Ore., falling to the No. 24 Sun Devils, 1-0, in overtime. Historically, the Beavers are 8-15-1 against the Sun Devils.
Scouting Arizona State
Arizona State is 8-3-1 (0-2-1 Pac-12) and went on a five-match winning streak from Aug. 19 to Sept. 2, collecting wins over Central Arkansas, Southeastern Louisiana, Mississippi State, UAB, and CSUN. Opening Pac-12 play on Sept. 24, ASU tied with Washington, 2-2, on the road, before falling to No. 21 USC (Sept. 30) and No. 3 UCLA (Oct. 3) in Tempe, AZ to fall out of the latest NCAA rankings.
The Sun Devils’ leading scorer is senior Nicole Douglas, who has 13 goals on the season, including four game-winners. Eva van Deursen is the leader in the assists category with six and boasts three goals of her own. Between the pipes, freshman Birta Gudlaugs has clocked 987:05 minutes, recording 48 saves and allowing 17 goals. Arizona State has scored 31 goals compared to 20 scored by opponents.
Last spring, the Sun Devils went 9-6-2 (4-4-2 Pac-12) and tallied five regular season shutouts and went on a five-match win-streak from Feb. 4 to Feb. 26. The Sun Devils defeated Siena College, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on April 28, before falling to Duke, 2-1, in double overtime on May 1.
Last Time Against Arizona
Oregon State fell to Arizona, 3-1, on Mar. 12, 2021 in Corvallis, Ore. In the 49th minute of play, Nicole Nickerson scored the Beavers’ sole goal. Historically, OSU’s record against Arizona is 10-15-1.
Arizona is 3-7 (0-3 Pac-12), posting wins over Northern Arizona, CSUN, and Nebraska. From Sept. 16 to Oct. 3, the Wildcats have gone on a four-loss streak. Prior to their match with the Beavers, Arizona will face Oregon on Oct. 7.
Redshirt senior Jill Aguilera is Arizona’s top scorer, earning five goals, including two game-winners. Leading the assists category is junior Gianna Christiansen with four. In goal, junior Hope Hisey has clocked 900:00 minutes between the pipes, earning 67 saves and allowing 20 goals. Arizona has scored 11 goals compared to 20 made by opponents.
The Wildcats went 9-5-1 (4-5-1 Pac-12) last spring. From Feb. 4 to Feb. 20, Arizona notched wins over GCU, UTEP, New Mexico State, and Northern Arizona. Arizona totaled six shutouts on the season including two against Arizona State.
