OTTAWA, Kan. – Ottawa University Director of Athletic Performance, Dillon Adams, is pleased welcome graduate assistant Andrew Thullesen and graduate student assistants Cindy Vazquez and Mountago Diallo to the Braves Athletic Performance staff.

“Andrew brings a wealth of knowledge in powerlifting to our program and has already helped make great improvements within the team,” said Adams. “His knowledge carries over to our other sports and will continue to help grow our program.”

Thullesen is a recent graduate from Missouri Valley College. Before coming to Ottawa University, Thullesen spent the summer of 2018 and 2019 working at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo. He monitored conditioning workouts, led workouts, monitored athletes throughout each workout, created workouts for injured athletes, was responsible for data entry of athlete’s weights and sleep analysis, assisted in all conditioning and speed workouts, set up the weight room and field before each session, and was responsible for clean-up and presentation of the weight room at the end of the day.

Thullesen also worked for Performance Course, working with athletes ages 13-18. He varied workouts to allow work around injuries, taught movement patterns and proper form for athletes who have never been in a weight room, tracked attendance and rack position for groups of athletes, and was responsible for clean-up and presentation of the weight room each day.

Thullesen was a member of the men’s powerlifting team at Missouri Valley College where he placed 10th in the 105kg weight class the USA Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals in 2021. Thullesen was team captain and a member of the Dean’s List. While at MVC, Thullesen also worked with the Viking Strength and Conditioning Program. He monitored teams during French Contrast workouts and applied the method to programming. Thullesen created and led the junior varsity teams in off season workouts, led athletes through the warmup prior to the workout, monitored safety of the workouts, and was responsible for clean-up and reset of the weight room.

Thullesen has CPR and AED certification, is an ACTION certified personal trainer, and is working towards his NSCA CSCS. He has coached multiple record setting powerlifters, assisted in keeping athletes in the weight room, and was named NSCA National Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year in 2017.

Thullesen graduated from Missouri Valley with a degree in exercise science. He is working on his masters in education from Ottawa University.

“Mountaga and Cindy both being former interns in our program as undergrads as well as athletes on campus helps bring familiarity and experience into our staff this year,” said Adams. “They both show great promise in the field, and we look forward to seeing what they can bring to our programs.”

Vazquez is in her first season as a graduate student assistant with the Athletic Performance program.

Vazquez was a member of the OU women’s wrestling program and the women’s powerlifting program. She graduated from OU with a degree in exercise science in May of 2021.

While at OU, Vazquez was a COF volunteer, was part of Kansas Kids Fitness Day, and did an internship with Neu Physical Therapy in Lawrence, Kan.

Vazquez is working on her MBA with an emphasis in sports business from Ottawa University.

Diallo is in his first season as a graduate student assistant in the Athletic Performance program.

He was a member of the OU men’s soccer team, graduating in May of 2020 with a degree in exercise science.

While at Ottawa, Diallo was a Hull Center worker, helping individuals with workouts and working the front desk. Diallo also worked as a youth soccer referee and was a personal training intern at Crunch Fitness. He also completed an internship with the Braves Athletic Performance Center.

Diallo is working on his MBA with an emphasis in sports business from Ottawa University.
