15 Nov DAZN wins 2021 Platform of the Year at SportsPro OTT Awards
- DAZN lauded for being an industry disruptor and the platform’s engagement
- Ironman wins Best Lockdown Solution for its community orientated digital events
Digital sports broadcast specialist DAZN won the top prize at the 2021 SportsPro OTT Awards, taking home Platform of the Year for the first time.
This year’s expert judging panel lauded DAZN as a ‘disruptor’ within the industry, as well as praising the platform for providing an engaging experience across its broad content offering.
Australian streaming platform Optus Sport picked up the silver award for this category, as judges were impressed by its content expansion through the launch of OS Fitness, which serves as a value add on top of its live Premier League, Women’s Super League (WSL) and international soccer coverage. The Tennis Channel International service placed third.
It was a good night for the German Football League (DFL) as its collaboration with TeraVolt on Bundesliga Interactive claimed three prizes, Innovation of the Year, Best User Experience and Best Digital First Production. The DFL has incorporated a number of new technologies into its wide-ranging content offering, including a newly launched app, and a new 9:16 vertical streaming format designed for smartphones, next generation statistics and augmented reality experiences.
Elsewhere, Two Circles and NFL Game Pass once again came out on top in this year’s Best Marketing Strategy, an award the two partners have now won for three successive years. The platform’s strong record of user retention, and progressive growth saw it defend its gold title.
This year’s second instalment of the Best Lockdown Solution award was claimed by the Ironman Group, for the company’s launch of the Ironman Club, allowing members of its online community to keep fit during lockdowns, competing in virtual reality (VR) powered events.
Also among the winners at the 2021 OTT Awards were Aura, who were announced as the Best Emerging Tech Company, Discovery+, who won Best New Platform, Sport Buff, who were voted as the Best Start Up Tech Company.
BlackBird won gold for in the Best Tech Company category, Neo Studios and Rakuten TV’s The Giants won the Best Original Content prize, LiveLike took the Best In Fan Engagement award, while Videocites claimed the top award for Best In Anti-Piracy.
This year’s OTT Awards took place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the first day of the OTT Summit, SportsPro’s first in-person event since the start of the pandemic. There is one more day of in-person content at the OTT Summit on 16th November before the event shifts to a virtual format on 17th and 18th.
