01 Nov Dutchwomen Host Vassar In First Round of Postseason Play
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women’s soccer team is back in the Liberty League Tournament. The third seeded Union College Dutchwomen will host sixth seeded Vassar College on Tuesday, November 2nd, at 7 p.m. at College Park Field.

AGAINST THE BREWERS: Union beat Vassar earlier this season by a final score of 2-1 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Seniors Emma Schleimer and Lexi Cornacchia each scored a goal in the game. Schleimer also added an assist on Cornacchia’s goal. Vassar out shot Union in the game 15-7. Junior Abby Mitty made 5 saves in the win for the Dutchwomen.
POSTSEASON HISTORY: Union is hosting its first conference tournament game since 2006 when the Dutchwomen beat William-Smith in Schenectady, N.Y. The last time these teams met in the conference tournament, Vassar was the third seed and Union was the sixth seed, with the Brewers taking a 1-0 victory. The Dutchwomen are moving on to the conference tournament for the fourth time in the last ten years, with appearances in 2019, 2016, and 2012. Union is 9-7-0 all-time in the Liberty League Tournament, including four conference titles in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006.
LATE SEASON OFFENSE: Union comes into Tuesday’s game on a three game winning streak. The Dutchwomen securing wins over Clarkson, Skidmore, and RIT in the span and outscoring opponents 5-1 over the three games. Senior Erin O’Shea leads the team with five goals and four assists for 14 points on the season. Fellow senior Emma Schleimer is second on the team in goals with four and has accumulated three assist for 11 points. Rounding out the top three is first-year Sam Friedman who has four goals and two assists for 10 points in the 2021 season.
A BRICK WALL: Junior goalkeeper Abby Mitty has been great in net for the Dutchwomen, starting all 17 games for Union this season. Mitty has a 1.76 goals against average and has two shutouts in her last three starts for the Dutchwomen. She has made 98 saves on the season including a career high of 17 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss against Trinity, earlier this season.
ABOUT THE BREWERS: Vassar heads to the Liberty League Tournament as the sixth seed with a 4-4-1 conference record. Senior Skylar Herrera-Ross leads the team with five goals and one assist for 11 points in her senior campaign. Sophomore Jacqueline Morrison has tallied four goals over the season for eight points for the Brewers. Vassar has split time in the net with three goalies all getting time. Julia Reigurt has played the most minutes while logging a 3-3-1 record in those games while Claire Mackenzie has posted a 4-2-1 record including four shutouts.
