In high school tennis at Fremont High, yesterday, Omaha Westside defeated Fremont, 8-1. The Tiger #3 doubles team of Cameron Indra and Jacob Broeker earned the lone win, for Fremont.
The Fremont High softball team earned two victories, last night, in a triangular at South Sioux City. Fremont beat Omaha Bryan, 12-0 and defeated South Sioux City, 19-0. Fremont is 21-7 on the season.
The Fremont High volleyball team lost at Grand Island, last night, 25-15, 25-14, 25-21. Fremont is 14-5 on the season.
The Bergan girls golf team finished ninth in the 12 team Wayne Invite, at the Wayne Country Club, Thursday. Bergan shot a 447. Columbus Scotus won the meet at 379. Bergan’s Olivia Fedde finished tenth at 100. Cecilia Arndt of Columbus Scotus was the meet medalist with an 87.
The Bergan cross country teams ran at the Fort Calhoun Invite at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park, Thursday. The Bergan boys finished eighth out of nine teams with 128 points. Fort Calhoun won the meet with 26 points. Carter DeMuth led the Knights, finishing 21st in 19:01.10. Nolan May of Arlington was the overall top finisher in 17:01.00. In the girls’ race, Bergan’s Sophie O’Neill finished 23rd at 24:19.40. DC West won the girls’ meet with 31 points. Keelianne Green of Arlington was the top finisher at 18:47.70.

Midland University has announced the hiring of Isaac Jennings to the athletics administration team. He returns to campus after serving as a track and field graduate assistant from 2018-2020. Jennings will work with the coaches and student-athletes in his role as an assistant athletic director.
In his time away from Midland, he worked as an AmeriCorps Site Supervisor for the Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement in Sylacauga, Alabama. He was an integral part of various programs that provide academic enrichment for over 500 students.
Prior to coaching at Midland, Jennings was an assistant high school track & field coach in his hometown, Sylacauga, Alabama. He also served as the assistant coach for the Alabama Heat AAU Track & Field team based in Birmingham, Alabama.
Jennings attended Troy University in Troy, Alabama, where he was a member of the track and field team. He specialized in jumps and sprints and was a three-time Sun Belt Conference medalist in the triple jump (2014, 2016, 2017). He graduated from Troy in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sports and Fitness Management. As a graduate assistant at Midland, he earned his Master’s degree in Adult and Organizational Learning and Leadership.
Midland University is pleased to announce the hiring of Beth Singleton as the new softball head coach. Singleton transitions into the head coaching role after spending the past six seasons as an assistant coach in the program under Mike Heard. During her time as an assistant, Midland won the GPAC Regular Season Championship three times (2018, 2019, 2021) and reached the NAIA National Tournament each of those seasons.
Outside of coaching the Warriors, Singleton has coached the Nebraska Gold for over a decade. In 2015 they won the ASA/USA 16u Gold National Championship and in 2021 they won the PGF Premier 18u National Championship.
The Nebraska soccer team (4-5-1, 0-1-1 Big Ten) battled Maryland to a 0-0 draw in the Huskers’ first road conference game of the season. NU continues to lead the all-time series between the teams 5-0-1.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sami Hauk, who played the full 110 minutes, earned her third shutout of the season and collected three saves on the night.
The Huskers return to the pitch on Sunday when they stay on the road and matchup with No. 9 Rutgers at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J. at 12 p.m. (CT).
The Husker softball team played their second intrasquad scrimmage of the fall Thursday afternoon where team cream outscored team scarlet 14-3 in a six inning game at Bowlin Stadium.
Runners were placed at various places throughout the scrimmage at the beginning of each inning to focus on situational plays resulting in 10 of the 17 runs.
There was plenty of offense in the game as the teams combined for 13 hits. For the scarlet, freshman Ava Bredwell led the way with two hits. Senior Peyton Glatter and sophomore Camyl Armendariz each added one hit.
For the cream, sophomore Abbie Squier led with three hits including a grand slam in the third inning. Squier also tallied seven RBIs. Senior Courtney Wallace also added two hits for the cream.
Nebraska will host its first fall double header against UNO this Sunday, Sept. 26 at Noon at Bowlin Stadium.
The Nebraska men’s golf team returns to competition at the 2021 William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Friday, Sept. 24 in Albuquerque, N.M.
The University of New Mexico hosts the two-day, 54-hole event that features a diverse 19-team field from around the nation. The big field on the par-72, 7,555-yard layout of the UNM Championship Course includes six 2021 NCAA Regional teams (Denver, Louisville, New Mexico, New Mexico State, San Diego, Texas). BYU, Colorado, Dixie State, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech, Loyola Marymount, Nebraska, North Texas, Santa Clara, UNLV, UTEP, VCU and Wyoming round out the strong field.
Action begins Friday with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. (CT), teeing off two continuous rounds of play. The tournament concludes with Saturday’s final round beginning with a shotgun start again at 8:45 a.m. (CT).
Nebraska returns to Big Ten Conference action this Saturday, as the Huskers travel to East Lansing, Mich., to take on the Michigan State Spartans. Game time at MSU’s Spartan Stadium is set for 6 p.m. Central. The game will be broadcast on Mix 105.5, FM, with the Husker Radio Network coverage beginning at 2pm.

The Creighton women’s soccer team posted a 1-1 draw with #25 Georgetown in the BIG EAST opener for both squads on Thursday, Sept. 23.
Following Thursday’s action the Bluejays at 6-2-2 on the season, while Georgetown moved to 4-0-5.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 26 in a road match at Providence. Kickoff is set for 11 am (CT).
The Mavericks hosted the Summit League newcomers the St. Thomas Tommies Thursday night to open league action. Omaha cruised to a 3-0 sweep in the conference opener. Sadie Limback and Marriah Buss recorded double-figure kills leading the Mavericks to the win.
With the win, Omaha improves to 4-7 overall and 1-0 in league play.
The Mavericks continue their home stand with a Saturday match vs. Western Illinois. Game time is 3 p.m. at Baxter Arena.

Right-hander Brandon Barker threw 5.0 innings of one-run ball to help the Omaha Storm Chasers defeat the Indianapolis Indians, 5-2, on Thursday at Werner Park. Omaha (a second straight win over Indianapolis (57-63, 0-2) and a fourth straight win overall.
The Storm Chasers continue the Triple-A Final Stretch on Friday with the third game of a five-game series against the Indianapolis Indians (PIT) at Werner Park, when left-hander Jake Kalish (3-5, 6.41) is schedule to face Indianapolis right-hander James Marvel (5.35). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
