The High Point University women’s soccer team (10-7-2) will make their first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2017 as they head to the University of Virginia (16-2-2) to take on the Cavaliers on Friday night.
History with University of Virginia
The Panthers and the Cavaliers have only met once before which came in the first round of the 2014 NCAA tournament. UVA came away with an 8-0 win over HPU.

Virginia is entering Friday night’s game as a one seed in the NCAA tournament. The Cavaliers had a strong showing in the ACC tournament as the top seed making it to the conference tournament final as they fell to ACC Champions, Florida State, by a score of 1-0.

The Panthers secured their first Big South Conference tournament Championship since 2017 on Sunday afternoon against Campbell University. HPU struck first in the game with a goal from Magdalena Schwarz in the 30th minute of play. The Camels found the equalizer with nine minutes left in regulation, however, Skyler Prillaman sent the Panthers home victorious with the over time, game-winner in the 94th minute of play.

“I’m beyond excited for the girls to have this opportunity, to win a championship this is what we work all season for. I think they did an absolutely phenomenal job today, they came out and fought with every bit of heart that they had and competed and that is what we needed. We knew it was going to come down to mindset and competing today.”
The winner of Friday night’s matchup will advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament to face the winner of the Xavier vs Milwaukee game on November 19th.
