Hope women’s soccer readies for NCAA Tournament

HOLLAND — With a ticket to the NCAA Tournament hanging in the balance, all eyes were on Isabelle Bertolone.

The Hope women’s soccer team (13-4-2) found themselves in a penalty kick shootout with Albion in the semifinals of the MIAA tournament. A tournament title would be the only way to guarantee the Flying Dutch earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament, so the senior goalie had to come up big.

She did just that. Stopping three straight shots by the Britons, and helping Hope earn a spot in the tournament final. Four days later they easily dismissed Trine 3-1 to earn the MIAA crown and a place in the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Leigh Sears knew that with Bertolone in the net, her team had a good chance to earn the shootout victory.
