16 Jul Lambinus Announces 2021 Women’s Soccer Schedule
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head women’s soccer coach Eric Lambinus announced the Mountain Hawks’ 2021 schedule on Friday, which features 16 games – eight home, eight away – against teams with a variety of styles and from numerous different conferences. The season opens with perennial MAAC power Monmouth on the road, and also includes reigning MAAC champion Siena along with BIG EAST opponents St. John’s and Seton Hall, and Ivy League power Princeton.
The Mountain Hawks open the season with two straight on the road – at Monmouth (Friday, Aug. 20) and Drexel (Thursday, Aug. 26). In the spring, the Hawks finished 5-1-3, advancing to the MAAC Championship Game for a fifth straight season where it tied top-seeded Siena, but the Saints earned the title and NCAA Tournament bid on penalty kicks. Lehigh has enjoyed recent success against Monmouth, going 1-0-4 while playing every season from 2015-19. Meanwhile, Lehigh and Drexel will square off for the first time since 2001.
Lehigh’s home opener is set for Sunday, Aug. 29 against reigning MAAC champion Siena, marking the first-ever meeting between the Mountain Hawks and Saints. A few days later, Lehigh will travel to St. John’s for a Thursday night showdown at St. John’s; the only other meeting between the programs was a 2-1 Mountain Hawks’ victory in 2017.
Lehigh wraps up its pre-Patriot League schedule with a home game vs. Wagner the following Thursday (Sept. 9) and trip to Seton Hall on Sunday (Sept. 12). The Mountain Hawks and Seahawks have never played while the last time Lehigh and Seton Hall squared off was to open the 2012 season.
The Mountain Hawks will not leave the Lehigh Valley through the first four games of their league schedule. Patriot League play opens up at home vs. Army West Point on Saturday, Sept. 18 and is quickly followed by a showdown at rival Lafayette on Wednesday (Sept. 22). The league schedule continues home vs. Holy Cross (Sunday, Sept. 26), home against Boston University (Friday, Oct. 1), at Navy (Friday, Oct. 8), home vs. Colgate (Wednesday, Oct. 13) and at Loyola (Saturday, Oct. 16).
Following a nonleague matchup vs. Princeton on Tuesday, Oct. 19, the Mountain Hawks wrap up their regular season schedule at American (Saturday, Oct. 23) and home vs. Bucknell (Wednesday, Oct. 27).
The Patriot League Tournament begins with the quarterfinals on Sunday, Oct. 31, with the semifinals scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 4 and championship game on Sunday, Nov. 7. Each of the last two seasons, the Mountain Hawks have been in Patriot League Tournament contention into the final game, but are eying their first trip to the PLT since 2018 – when they advanced to the title game at Boston University.
