27 Sep Manchester City and Expo 2020 Dubai agree new training kit deal
- City to host soccer training sessions at event in Dubai
- Expo 2020 first partnered with Premier League club in June
- Event replaces Marathonbet in key club inventory
Premier League champions Manchester City have revealed Expo 2020 Dubai as their new training kit sponsor.
The English soccer giants first partnered with the event in June, with Expo 2020 becoming the club’s official exhibition partner.
The new one-year deal will see Expo 2020 Dubai’s branding displayed on both the men’s and women’s training kits. The event will also be promoted at Etihad Stadium and the City Football Academy training facilities.
The partnership will also see City coaching staff host daily soccer training sessions at the Expo site, while representatives from the club and City Football Group (CFG) will attend various events during Expo 2020.
Expo 2020’s logo will also feature on City’s esports kit and be promoted across the club’s digital platforms.
The global technology event, which will feature representatives from 190 countries, is set to open this week, following a year-long delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
City have been without a training kit sponsor since Marathonbet’s deal, reportedly worth eight-figures, expired at the end of last season.
“This partnership will integrate Expo 2020 as a core part of every training session and matchday as our teams challenge for success this season,” said Ferran Soriano, CFG chief executive.
“Expo 2020 showcases values of innovation and sustainability that we wholeheartedly embrace at Manchester City. We are very excited to collaborate and partner with an event that will be truly spectacular, global and transformational.”
Sholto Douglas-Home, chief sales and marcoms officer of Expo 2020 Dubai, added: “Becoming the club’s new training kit partner will massively accentuate the ability of Expo 2020 Dubai to engage and inspire fans around the globe by inviting them to share in the excitement of what this unique World Expo will offer.”
