FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women’s soccer team returns to the Hefner Soccer Complex for a Horizon League game against Oakland on Sunday, Sept. 26 (noon).

Scouting the Mastodons
The Mastodons enter Sunday’s match with a 3-3-4 overall record and a 2-1 record in Horizon League play. They are coming off a thrilling 3-2 overtime win against Robert Morris in Moon Township, Pa. The sister duo of Morgan Reitano and Bella Reitano scored all three goals for the ‘Dons. Bella scored the first two goals at the 16th minute and 50th minute, Morgan scored the game winning goal in the 94th minute, with the assist coming Bella.
For the ‘Dons, this is the best start to a conference season since 2015 when they started 2-0-1 in Summit League play. As a team, the ‘Dons are tied for fourth in the Horizon League in goals scored (12), and have allowed the fourth fewest goals (15).
Individually, Kelsey Gallagher leads the ‘Dons in points with seven. She’s scored one goal and leads the team in assists with five. Gallagher is tied for third in the conference in assists. Morgan Reitano leads the ‘Dons in goals with three. The ‘Dons are 3-0 when either Reitano sister scores a goal. Samantha Castaneda has started all 10 games in goal for the ‘Dons this season. She is first in the conference in goalie minutes played by over 100 minutes (974:35), tied for first in shutouts (three), second in total saves (60) and saves per game (6.00). In the country, Castaneda is 13th in minutes played and tied for 48th in shutouts.
Scouting the Golden Grizzles
Oakland enters Sunday’s match with a 3-7-1 overall record and a 2-0-1 record in Horizon League play. The Golden Grizzles are in third place in the Horizon League standings with seven points. They defeated UIC by a score of 3-0 on Thursday, Sept. 23 in Rochester, Mich. In three Horizon League games, the Golden Grizzles have out-scored their opponents 10-1. They scored just five total goals in eight non-league games. As a team, the Golden Grizzles are third in the Horizon League in goals scored (15), third in team points (41), and tied for third in assists (11).
Individually, Alexa Sabbagh leads the Golden Grizzles in goals (five), shots (20), and tied for the team lead in assists (two). Sabbagh is fifth in the Horizon League in goals scored. In addition, Sami Lopez has scored four goals on the season. She is tied for sixth in the conference in goals scored.
The Mastodons and Golden Grizzles have met 10 times prior to Sunday’s match. The Golden Grizzles leads the series 8-1-1. The last time these two teams met was back on March. 30, 2021 in Rochester, Mich. which resulted in a 1-1 draw.
The Mastodons will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 2 (8 p.m.) to play in a Horizon League match against Milwaukee in Milwaukee, Wis.
