The MMA women’s soccer team, the No. 2 seed and champion out of the NAC East, got goals from Suzanne Wooldridge and MacKenzie Carter in Saturday afternoon’s home win over West champion and No. 2 seed Cazenovia (10-11). George Stevens Academy alum Bess MacArthur made two saves in net for the Mariners (11-6), who repeated as NAC champions in Keenan Schaeffer’s first season as head coach.
On the court, East champ and No. 1 seed MMA volleyball claimed a 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-15) victory over No. 2 seed and West champion SUNY-Cobleskill (12-14) to clinch the conference championship. The 3-0 marked a perfect run in NAC play for the Mariners (20-6), who won all eight regular season matches and all three tournament matches without dropping a single game.
MMA volleyball is set to play Susquehanna University (Selinsgrove, Pa.; 22-6) in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Mariners and River Hawks are scheduled to face each other at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Friday, Nov. 12, with the winner advancing to face Bowdoin (22-4) or Johnson & Wales (20-9).
