Mocs Return to the Pitch

Mocs Return to the Pitch

The Chattanooga women’s soccer team hit the pitch running this morning – literally!

After reporting to campus Monday and a team meeting Monday afternoon, the Mocs started training camp with a fitness test that included running. A lot of it.

“We did a fitness gauge to start today just to see where their levels are,” head coach Gavin McKinney said. “Then we tested them again in a transition game, some hidden fitness in a game.”

With just five days until the Mocs head west to Nashville for its first preseason scrimmage, McKinney and his staff are working to get the team “match-ready”.

On Sunday, UTC will take on Vanderbilt in a preseason scrimmage before retuning to Chattanooga to host Tennessee Tech five days later in preparation for the season opening match on August 19 against UAB at home.

His philosophy for soccer hasn’t changed as he begins his seventh season at the helm.

“Hard work, enjoyment. I think those are two really important things whenever you step out onto the pitch. You should be grateful for the opportunity to be out her with your teammates and competing,” McKinney said. “That’s one of the things we love about the group. They always give effort. You can see the energy from the start.”

The Mocs have six training sessions this week and one foray into the weight room in preparation for Sunday’s scrimmage against the Commodores.

The gates will be open to fans this season. Please follow all CDC guidelines while attending matches and cheer on the Mocs!
