No. 5 Women’s Soccer Defeats Millikin, 3-1

St. Louis, Mo., September 15, 2021 – The Washington University in St. Louis women’s soccer team defeated Millikin, 3-1, on Wednesday evening. The Bears are now 3-0-1 on the year.

WashU scored its first of three goals in the 18th minute as Tyler Wilson collected a rebound from a previous shot and fired it into the back of the net for her second goal of the season. She has now scored in back-to-back games.

Just over 10 minutes later, Millikin pulled even as Maddy Wood took a rebound off of goalkeeper Sidney Conner. As Conner was out of the net, Wood made a move around defenders to score and tie things up, 1-1.

What was ultimately the game-winner for the Bears was scored in the 38th minute. Following a Millikin foul in the box, Erin Flynn scored on a penalty kick, putting the ball in the center of the net as Big Blue goalkeeper Hope Limoges dove right.

The Bears added an insurance goal in the 74th minute as Ariana Miles took a cross from Kate Flynn and fired it in past a diving Limoges for her first goal of the year.

WashU had plenty of other chances to extend the score, as it outshot Millikin 23-2. Of those 23 shots, 10 were on goal for the Bears. WashU also earned 10 corner kicks to Millikin’s two.

Anna Viscovich registered four shots against the Big Blue, while Jessica Greven, Erin Flynn and Kate Flynn each had three.

Each of the three wins for the Bears this season have been by at least two goals.

WashU is back in action this weekend as it travels to Rhodes College for a tournament, which the first match up on Saturday against UW-Whitewater at 12 p.m.
