24 Oct Penn State Women’s Soccer To Face Michigan In Big Ten Quarterfinals
It took until the last day of the regular season, but Penn State women’s soccer has qualified for the eight-team Big Ten Tournament.
Following a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Michigan State on Sunday afternoon, the Nittany Lions claimed the No. 6 seed, setting up a visit to No. 3 Michigan on Halloween. A kickoff time from Ann Arbor will be announced in the coming days, but the match will be streamed on BTN+.
Erica Dambach’s squad needed two goals in the dying moments of the match to get the job done in East Lansing.
Ally Schlegel connected on a cross from Maddie Myers in the 79th minute to equalize before Ellie Wheeler sealed the improbable comeback with just under seven minutes to play.
Had the Nittany Lions lost, their season would have ended. The Big Ten’s teams finished impossibly close, and the two late goals against the No. 4 team in the conference gave Penn State a new lease on life.
Penn State will most likely need a win or two in the conference tournament to book a ticket to the NCAA Tournament despite being ranked No. 24 nationally.
