25 Oct Regional League Round-Up: Blackpool Ladies and Helston both go top
Blackpool and Helston Athletic went top of their respective Women’s Regional League tables after Sunday’s victories.
EASTERN – Hatters win derby
Premier – Luton Town won 4-0 at neighbours AFC Dunstable in midweek to go fifth. Colney Heath leapfrogged Haringey Borough in the table by beating them 3-0.
1 South – Billericay Town DS got off the mark with a 1-1 draw at Wodson Park, who themselves gained just their second point.
EAST MIDLANDS – Midweek matches
1 North – No league games on 24 October but Appleby Frodingham host Cleethorpes Town this Wednesday.
1 South – The same evening, Oadby & Wigston take on Nottingham Forest DS.
LONDON & SOUTH EAST – First win for Whyteleafe
Premier – Whyteleafe sealed a first win with the only goal of the game at Dulwich Hamlet.
1 North – Brentford’s Ellen Wardlaw bagged a brace in a 3-1 defeat of Dulwich Hamlet Reserves, that lifted them to fourth place. Sport London E Benfica hit Clapham United 6-1, Watford DS were 3-0 winners over Victoire.
1 South – Ashford Ladies won 5-2 against Maidstone United, Newhaven’s Gracie Cook and Natalia Laszkiewicz netted in the win at Bexhill United, Meridian secured their first points when edging Parkwood Rangers 2-1.
NORTH EAST – Blyth net five in goal flurry at Norton
1 North – There were five goals in a 19-minute spell before Amber Witson’s second for leaders Blyth Town saw them win 5-2 at Norton & Stockton Ancients Reserves. Chester le Street United’s Holly Doogan struck twice in a 2-1 victory over Wallsend BC, Spennymoor Town’s Kira Whittle did likewise to take the points at Prudhoe Town, while Boro Rangers recorded a 5-1 result at Guisboorugh Town.
NORTH WEST – Blackpool go top

Premier – West Didsbury & Chorlton jumped three place to fifth after running out 9-2 winners at basement side Wigan Athletic.
1 North – Blackpool’s 3-0 result at Penwortham Town came with an Aimee Shaw double that helped them go top, Workington Reds went level on points with second-placed Blackburn CSC after a 6-2 success at Morecambe Reserves. Haslingden hit eight at Carlisle United, Preston North End sunk hosts Chorley DS 7-0 despite being beneath them in the table.
1 South – Curzon Ashton were the first to deny Warrington Wolves a win, holding the leaders 1-1 on their own ground. Northwich Vixens are level on points with Chester in second having returned from Runcorn Linnets 4-3 winners, while West Kirby won at Alder to go above them.
SOUTHERN – Winchester City fly through cup tie
Division 1 – Southampton Women’s Reserves were 5-1 winners over fourth-placed Woking, Chichester City beat Abbey Rangers 4-2 aided by Gabriella Hobday’s brace.
League Cup – Winchester City Flyers went through 8-0 at Eversley & California, where there were two goals apiece for Libby Wilkinson, Emily Woodhouse and Shayne Prasad.
SOUTH WEST – Helston new leaders
Premier – Marine Academy sank Bideford 7-0 for a second win in half-a-dozen games.
1 East – Paulton Rovers went ahead through Alex Gwyther at Swindon Town DS but Lucy Scrannage levelled for the leaders in the second half.
1 North – Bristol Rovers made it six wins from six when with a 3-1 result in the top of the table clash at Frampton Rangers. Almondsbury matched that result at Weston Mendip to climb to fourth.
1 West – Helston Athletic defeated Liverton United 4-2 to go top, Sasha Sparkes getting a couple for the hosts, Maria Maguire sent off for the visitors.
WEST MIDLANDS – Westfields get first taste of victory
Premier – Coundon Court climbed to fourth with a 3-0 result at Redditch United, Kidderminster Harriers beat Worcester City 3-1 to go fifth, while the basement battle ended in a 3-3 draw between City of Stoke and Coventry Sphinx, Brenna Ruffley with a brace for the latter.
1 North – Port Vale’s five goals at Wyrley put them fourth, Coventry City’s Madison Moss saw red as did Leanne Johnson of Walsall Wood with the game ending 2-2, Walsall pipped Darlaston Town 2-1 with a Maja Szymkowiak decider.
1 South – Westfields clinched a first victory 4-2 away at Droitwich Spa, with brace by Lauren Brown and Sophie Elcox-Bond. Borough beat Town 3-1 in the Rugby derby, Kingfisher came through their trip to Sedgley & Gornal United by the same score.
