Seahawks Ink Eight for 2022 Campaign

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW Head Women’s Soccer Coach Chris Neal has announced the signing of eight student-athletes, including six North Carolina natives, to National Letters of Intent to play for the Seahawks in 2022.
 
“I am excited to welcome these new Seahawks to the nest,” said Neal, the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year. “They will bring a well-rounded variety of strengths to our team. They are joining a CAA regular season championship side and they are well aware of how high the expectations and standards are at UNCW. They all come from very professional training environments and I am confident these Seahawks will be flying high into the 2022 preseason.”

Allison Burrus
Position: Forward
Height: 5-4
Hometown: Sanford, N.C.
High School: Southern Lee
Club Team: NC Fusion NL
 
Highlights: All-Conference performer at Southern Lee who was named team’s Offensive Player of the Year during freshman season … participated in several ECNL Showcase events along with NCFC Showcase.  
 
Coach Neal Says: “Allison is an aggressive and quick attacker who will cause problems for defenses in a variety of ways. Her game has continued to evolve with the NC Fusion and John Pardini. She has the athleticism to impact all phases of the game at this level.”

 
Lauren Doyle
Position: Forward
Height: 5-6
Hometown: Chapel Hill, N.C.
High School: Cardinal Gibbons
Club Team: NC Courage Academy ECNL
 
Highlights: Member of 2021 NC Courage Academy ECNL team that reached national playoffs … also helped NCFC ECNL reach finals of 2018 Jefferson Cup … competed at 2018 and 2019 Florida DA Showcase along with 2021 Greensboro ECNL Showcase.   
 
Coach Neal Says: “Lauren is a real handful in one-on-one attacking scenarios. Her desire to dribble at players and attack the penalty box is electric. During her time with Sean Nahas and the NC Courage, she has also developed a tremendous soccer IQ and can operate seamlessly as a wide midfielder, wide forward or as an attacking central midfielder. I am excited to coach Lauren!”
 

Amelia Forster
Position: Defense
Height: 5-3
Hometown: Raleigh, N.C.
High School: Rolesville
Club Team: North Carolina Courage
 
Highlights: Five-year member of NC Courage Academy club team … member of 2017 Jefferson Cup championship team … participated in 2021 Jefferson Cup Showcase and ECNL Florida Nationals … competed at 2020 Spring Showcase … mother, Yexenia, played softball at UNCW from 1994-97 … father, Paul, played soccer at UNCW from 1994-97.  
 
Coach Neal Says: “Amelia is a tenacious wide defender who loves a good challenge, going forward and providing service. She has been molded in a professional playing environment under the teaching of Sean Nahas and the NC Courage club. She will be given an excellent opportunity as a freshman to be taken ‘under the wings’ of captains Carey Allard and Talia Parrous.”

 
Hanna Heaton
Position: Midfield
Height: 5-5
Hometown: Gloucester, Va.
High School: Gloucester
Club Team: Richmond United
 
Highlights: First-Team All-Conference performer for Gloucester High School … member of ECNL and ODP National Training Camps … participated in YNT Training ID Center in October, 2018 … also competed in ODP Region One Iceland Tour in April, 2018 … has participated in several ECNL National events … father played soccer at Christopher Newport … older brother played soccer at Bluefield College. 
 
Coach Neal Says: “Hanna will be joining us from Richmond United, one of the most competitive teams in the nation. Her development with that club under coaches Aaron Brunner and Mika Elovaara has been spectacular. She is an attacking central midfielder with an endless amount of skill and creativity. I am excited for her to be joining a CAA Championship team as a freshman and play alongside multiple returning All-CAA midfielders, including team captain Morgan Nanni, for the 2022 season.”

 
Cameryn Keane
Position: Midfield
Height: 5-9
Hometown: Manasquan, N.J.
High School: Trinity Hall
Club Team: PDA
 
Highlights: Two-time All-Division performer at Trinity Hall High School who was listed among Top 100 Seniors in New Jersey … earned All-Area distinction in 2020 … helped PDA Shore Soccer win 2021 ECNL Regional title with undefeated record … multi-sport athlete at Trinity Hall … three-year starter for basketball team who served as team captain during junior season … also led Trinity Hall to Shore Conference Division title in 2021 … three-year performer for Trinity Hall track and field team who tied school record in 400-meter run (59.8).  
 
Coach Neal Says: “Hailing from PDA, one of the top clubs in the nation, and Coach Lou Santa Cruz, Cameryn is a fantastic addition to our squad. She is an extremely strong and physically dominant athlete who can play in the central midfield or on the back line. She is a complete player with a special combo of ball-winning and connecting qualities. As a local on the Jersey shore, Cameryn also loves to surf, so she will fit right in here at UNCW!”  

 
Nicole Poole
Position: Defense
Height: 5-7
Hometown: Mooresville, N.C.
High School: Community School of Davidson
Club Team: Charlotte Independence Soccer Club
 
Highlights: Four-year letter winner for Community School of Davidson who earned All-Conference and All-Region recognition … led Mooresville to perfect 18-0 record and Class 1A state title in 2021 … member of U-14 and U-15 NC State Cup champion team for club program … has participated in several ECNL Showcase events along with US Youth Soccer Region III Championship … also competed in international friendlies and tournaments in Sweden, Denmark, Portugal and Costa Rica … multi-sport athlete at the Community School of Davidson who also competed on basketball, football, cross country and track and field teams … three-year NCSRA certified soccer referee … father, Calvin, played football at NC State.
 
Coach Neal Says: “Nicole is a tough, physical, ball-winning center back, so her overall athleticism will allow her to immediately compete at the CAA level. She plays for a fantastic Charlotte Independence team that has received high-level coaching from Rusty Scarborough and David Carton. I am excited for Nicole to continue to develop and learn from Jenn Ludemann and our veteran defenders.”
 

Alex Tsumas

Highlights: First-Team All-Conference and All-Region selection at Marvin Ridge High School … participated in multiple Jefferson Cup, Charlotte Independence Showcase and NCFC Showcase events … also competed at VDA Showcase and NC ECNL Showcase … sister, Noble, played basketball at Winthrop.  
 
Coach Neal Says: “Alex has a real engine and can go from end to end with ease. She can play in any position within our defense. She has been well-taught by Matt Danaher and the Charlotte Independence to play with efficiency and purpose, along with extreme toughness in the tackle and a beautiful simplicity that is difficult for most players to achieve.”  
 

Ayla Vaneus
Position: Forward/Midfield
Height: 5-5
Hometown: Greensboro, N.C.
High School: UNCG Middle College and Southeast High School
Club Team: NC ECNL Fusion
 
Highlights: Two-time All-Region and All-Conference performer at Southeast High School … recipient of Athletic Award in 2019 … named Player of the Year in 2021 … participated in several ECNL Showcase events with NC Fusion club team … father, Fritz, was a wrestler at Cheney University.   
 
Coach Neal Says: “Ayla is a very athletic forward with a wonderful combination of creativity, defensive work rate and goal scoring ability. She benefitted from a highly competitive and professional club atmosphere under the tutelage of John Pardini and the NC Fusion, which should transition well to this level.”
