21 Oct Second Annual NJCU Athletics Golf Outing a Success!
BLOOMFIELD, N.J. — On a breezy Monday, Oct. 18, at Forest Hill Field Club, a scenic course roughly 10 miles from the main New Jersey City University campus, Gothic Knight Athletics hosted their second annual golf outing. Thanks to all those who competed, as well as our generous sponsors, the Second Annual NJCU Athletics Golf Outing was a complete success! There were roughly 100 golfers on the day who joined the Gothic Family for registration, early lunch, 18 beautiful holes of golf and a post-tournament reception where raffle items were won and the outing victors were crowned. The NJCU department of athletics is extremely grateful to all those who registered for the event and would especially like to recognize all of our sponsors.

A special shoutout goes to Eric Lunt of Charity Golf International. Lunt, a professional golfer who competes in long drive championships, helped raise a large donation toward NJCU Athletics with his long drive trick shot show at the 14th tee. Also part of that charity contest was a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip for two to the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.
We would also like to highlight our individual and team winners from the event. The long drive champions on hole #7 were our very own head men’s soccer coach Joe Cullen (men’s winner) and Lezlie Draper (women’s winner). Then, for the closest to the pin competition on hole #5, Brian Weill took home the title at 11’7″ from the hole.
The team championship went to the foursome of Dr. Pat Tierney, Scott Porto and a pair of our own Gothic Knights in head women’s bowling coach Rusty Thomsen and Senior Director of University Communications Ira Thor. The group shot a scramble score of 59 on the round. Second place went to Jeff Menzel, Matt Durkin, Corey Goldberg and Alex Martello, also at 59, but the tiebreaker went to the group of Tierny/Porto/Thomsen/Thor with their 29 on the back nine. Third place went to Stephen Hess, Brian Flood, John Galiher and Alex Badalamenti, who shot a 63.
