THIS WEEK IN CENTENARY ATHLETICS:
Another busy week for Centenary Athletics begins on Monday as the men’s golf team opens its 2021-22 season in the Mary Hardin-Baylor Fall Invitational in Temple, Texas. The tournament will be held at Sammons Park Golf Course and wraps up Tuesday with the final round of play. Centenary will go with a lineup of junior Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic), senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) along with sophomore transfer Drew Bennett (Bossier City, La.), fellow sophomore Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.), junior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) and freshman Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.). All six players will compete and the best four scores will count.
On Tuesday, the Ladies volleyball team will play a pair of non-conference matches in East Texas as they will face LeTourneau and East Texas Baptist. The match against the YellowJackets of LeTourneau is set for 3 p.m. in Longview and then they finish off the multi-match day with a 7 p.m. match versus the Tigers of ETBU in Marshall. Centenary then returns to conference play this coming weekend as the Maroon and White play host to 10 matches over two days, Friday Oct. 1 and Saturday, Oct. 2, with SCAC rivals Dallas, Schreiner, Southwestern, and Trinity coming to town. 11 a.m. Dallas vs. Southwestern (Fitness Center)
1 p.m. Centenary vs. Schreiner (Gold Dome)
3 p.m. Austin College vs. Southwestern (Gold Dome)
5 p.m. Centenary vs. Trinity (Gold Dome)
5 p.m. Dallas vs. Schreiner (Fitness Center)
Saturday, October 2
10 a.m. Southwestern vs. Schreiner (Gold Dome)
Noon Dallas vs. Trinity (Gold Dome)
2 p.m. Centenary vs. Southwestern (Gold Dome)
2 p.m. Austin College vs. Schreiner (Fitness Center)
The men’s and women’s soccer teams open SCAC play this weekend on the road as the Ladies and Gents face Trinity in San Antonio on Friday and Schreiner in Kerrville on Sunday. Friday’s matches are set for 6 p.m. (Ladies) and 8 p.m. (Gents) versus the Tigers and Sunday’s game times are Noon (Ladies) and 3 p.m. (Gents) versus the Mountaineers.
