Three Fall Teams Featured in Initial NCAA Division III Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The initial NCAA Division III regional rankings for field hockey, volleyball, men’s soccer and women’s soccer were released on Wednesday afternoon and Ithaca College had a host of teams included in the initial rankings within Region III. Each of the respective rankings we’re in alphabetical order this week as strength of schedule was the primary criteria that factored into the initial regional rankings. The strength of schedule is made up of two factors: the opponents’ winning percentage (OWP) and the opponents’ opponents’ winning percentage (OOWP). Football regional rankings have yet to be released.

The women’s volleyball team enters the weekend of Oct. 22 with seven regular season games remaining, which includes a pair of Liberty League contests against Bard College and Vassar College. The Bombers own an overall record of 12-10 and are 4-1 within the conference. Attacking wise, IC have been led this season by the trio of Jaelyn Hershberger (182), Jamie Koopman (172) and Paris Buckner (117) who each have triple digit kill totals. The Bombers will conclude the regular season hosting a tri-match against SUNY Brockport (Oct. 30) and No. 13 New York University at Ben Light Gymnasium.

The women’s soccer team was also one of eight schools listed in the initial Region III rankings with fellow Liberty League opponents William Smith, Skidmore, RIT and Vassar College. Ithaca College have three games remaining in the regular season including two pivotal home matches to conclude its Liberty League slate hosting RIT (Oct. 26) and Vassar College (Oct. 30). Offensively, the Bombers are led by forwards Alex Epifani who has netted four goals while dishing out six assists and Rosie Bostian who has eight points this season (three goals and two assists). They’ve seen outstanding play from sophomore goalkeeper Claire Reader who own a 0.82 goals against average with 44 saves, which ranks fifth in the Liberty League.

The field hockey team was one of six teams featured in the first Region III rankings of the year along with Rochester, St. Lawrence, Cortland, New Paltz and Vassar. The Bombers are 12-3 on the season and own a perfect 5-0 record in Liberty League play with two games left in the regular season – October 22 vs. St. Lawrence at 4 p.m. and Oct. 24 at Skidmore at 3 p.m. A win in either of the two contests will clinch the No. 1 seed for the Bombers for the postseason tournament on November 3 and 6. Morgan Mullen and Samantha Horowitz pace the offense with seven goals each this season, while Jacqueline Mirabile and Grace Ziehnert each have three goals. On the backend, Macy Brandwein is 9-3 in goal with a 0.73 GAA and .805 save percentage. Alex Clough has also made five appearances in goal and is 3-0 with a .074 GAA and a .667 save percentage.

The regional rankings determine the field for each NCAA Tournament at the conclusion of the conference tournaments. The rankings will be released each Wednesday from Oct. 20 until the official NCAA Selection Shows for each sport.
