Gibbons, from St. Petersburg, Florida, spearheaded FSU’s offensive line that paved the way for 238 rushing yards. Quarterback Jordan Travis led the Noles with a career-high 121 rushing yards and two touchdowns and added three passing touchdowns. He is the first quarterback in FSU history with three passing and two rushing touchdowns in the same game.
Gibbons played all 54 offensive snaps at UNC, including Travis’s 53-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. As a unit, FSU’s offense did not allow a sack for the first time since 2019 and did not commit a turnover for the first time this year. The Seminoles have a 100-yard rusher and over 200 rushing yards in five of six games this season.
Johnson is the Defensive Lineman of the Week for the second time this season. The redshirt senior from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, had six tackles at North Carolina, including a pivotal sack in the fourth quarter that was the only sack for either team. Johnson leads all Power 5 players with 7.0 sacks on the season and is second in the ACC with 9.0 tackles for loss. The defensive end leads all ACC linemen with 44 tackles this year.
Johnson was previously named the Defensive Lineman of the Week after his Seminole debut against No. 9 Notre Dame in September.
McClain, from Daphne, Alabama, got FSU on the board with a five-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter. It was the first touchdown of his young career and he has started five straight games.
Gibbons is FSU’s first Offensive Lineman of the Week since Roderick Johnson in November 2016. Johnson is the first Nole with multiple Defensive Lineman of the Week honors in a season since DeMarcus Walker in 2016. Lawrance Toafili was Rookie of the Week last season against Jacksonville State.
Florida State is back in action against UMass on October 23 at 12:00 p.m. on ACC Network.
