Times Set for NCAA Championship Second and Third Rounds

DURHAM – The NCAA has released the dates and times for the second and third rounds of the Women’s Soccer Championship, with Koskinen Stadium set to host three matches from Friday, Nov. 19-Sunday, Nov. 21.

Samford and Saint John’s will kick off the weekend slate with a second-round matchup on Friday at 4 p.m. ET, before top-seeded Duke takes on Memphis at 6:30 p.m. The winners of Friday’s matches will advance to the third round, which will be played Sunday at 6 p.m. at Koskinen.

The Blue Devils (14-3-1) punched their ticket to the second round by way of a dramatic, last-minute win over Old Dominion on Friday, Nov. 12. Graduate student Caitlin Cosme drilled a free kick from the top of the box off the right post and in with 16 seconds remaining to give Duke a 1-0 victory, sending the Blue Devils through to the second round for the seventh consecutive season.

Duke puts its 43-22-11 all-time record in the NCAA Championship – and 23-2-1 mark in tournament games played in Durham – on the line against Memphis (14-4-2) on Friday night. The Tigers posted a dominant 3-0 shutout over LSU in the first round on Sunday in Memphis, earning their first tournament win since 2011. Memphis, the American Athletic Conference tournament champions, netted each of its goals in the second half against LSU and is 4-0-1 over its last five matches.

St John’s (13-6-2) travels to Durham on the heels of a 1-0 overtime win over Brown in its first-round match on Saturday. Sophomore Ava Collins scored the golden goal in the 99th minute to give the Red Storm their second NCAA Championship victory in program history and first since 2013. St John’s has won seven of its last eight matches with five shutouts in that stretch.

Samford (16-3-2) went on the road to face No. 4-seed Auburn in the first round on Friday evening and came away with a 2-0 win. The Bulldogs’ match versus St. John’s on Friday will be their first appearance in the second round of the tournament since 2005. Samford clinched an automatic bid to this year’s Championship by defeating Furman in the Southern Conference tournament title game.
