US women’s soccer star Carli Lloyd, coach discuss her career and the value of relationships at Elon convocation

Two-time Olympic gold medalist and World Cup champion Carli Lloyd and her trainer Danny Madaroski spoke at Elon University’s fall convocation Friday, reflecting on the women’s soccer star’s career, their time training together and the relationship they’ve built.

Convocation kicked off the university’s fall speaker series, which focuses on relationships, according to Assistant Professor of Exercise Science and discussion moderator Lauren Walker.

During the hour long event attended by Elon students, faculty, parents and community members, Lloyd was asked about her rigorous training cycles, replacing her former trainer of 17 years with Madaroski, forming new relationships as she closed out her career and the impact of the pandemic on her preparations for the Tokyo Olympics.

Lloyd’s visit to the university comes just months after the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics and on the heels of Lloyd’s retirement announcement.
