The Department of Athletics offers our students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to learn the skills of selected lifetime sports and promote wellness through our class offerings. Wellness and physical education classes are not for-credit and are completely voluntary. These classes are available to all full-time Union students.

To register for SPRING BREAK 2021 classes, click this link. Registration runs through Wednesday, March 24 and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. The registration closes when the classes reach their maximum enrollment of 12 students; if a class that you are trying to sign up for reaches capacity, please email Mike Polsinelli at polsinem@union.edu to be placed on the wait list. Spring Break classes are available free of charge only to Union College students.

Spinning® – Cycle your way to better health with our certified Spinning® instructors!  Set to motivating music, experience various conditioning drills to challenge and strengthen your cardiovascular system.  This class is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.  Water and towel are recommended. All Spinning classes will be held on the Alumni Gym Balcony.

Total Body Conditioning HIIT – This class is for all fitness levels, using bodyweight exercises and gentle cardio to get your heart rate up and burn calories fast.  Includes stretching and abdominal work.  Bring your own towel and or mat and water bottle. All Group Fitness classes will be held on the rec tennis courts behind Alumni Gym.

No HIIT Classes are being offered during Spring Break.

Body Burn – Whatever your fitness level, this bodyweight class will help improve all levels of fitness. The 50 minute workout will consist of three sections including a warmup/cool-down.  In all parts you will build strength, balance and muscle endurance.  Needed: Mat or bath towel for core work, (light/medium dumbbells optional). All Group Fitness classes will be held on The Alumni Gym Balcony

Yoga Flow – Yoga Flow is designed to strengthen, lengthen and rejuvenate!! It is a perfect class for beginners or intermediate yoga practitioners because it moves at a slower pace and focuses on developing core strength, flexibility and movement of the spine, limbs and joints. Participants will be guided through a series of yoga postures, woven together by breath, with a strong focus on alignment and the connection between body and breath. The class begins with a brief guided meditation into breath awareness and ends with a short stage-by-stage relaxation to leave your mind and body feeling connected, refreshed and ready to flow off your mat and back into the world!! Bring your own yoga mat or bath towel to each class. All yoga classes will be held at the Viniar Athletic Center.

No Yoga Flow classes are being offered during Spring Break.

Personal Training – The Athletic Department is also pleased to offer personal training services to the Campus Community with Darcie Adams and Raney Newman.

Darcie Adams has been in the fitness industry professionally since 1998.  She has been a Certified Personal Trainer since 2003.  For 15 years, she held the position as a Health & Fitness Director of a non-for-profit community center. In this position, she has helped other personal trainers and group fitness instructors develop their skills.  She has performed one-on-one fitness trainings with a broad range of clientele. She is a presenter/pro-trainer for FiTour (2009-present) and was an AFAA Examiner (2002-2016).  Darcie attends fitness conferences yearly and has many continuing educational course credits from SCW, AAAI/ISMA and AFAA. Her areas of proficiency are group fitness classes from the young to older active adults, fitness assessments, one-on-one and group training sessions.  She enjoys all aspects of the health and wellness field. She motivates you to want to do your best and just when you think you’re there, you find you have a little bit more to give! 

Raney Newman is a Union College student and ACE certified personal trainer who has been planning and leading group and individual training sessions for more than a year. He performs one-on-one and group workouts, covering a wide range of activities including weight training, HIIT (high intensity) and cross-training, and cardiovascular training. He is experienced at developing individualized programs to meet individual fitness goals, ranging from building fitness programs for athletes to improving individual health or body composition for all age groups. Raney tailors workouts to an individual’s and group’s needs or limitations and can incorporate weight and resistance training, cardiovascular training, and other fun and diverse activities. Whether you are having trouble making it to the gym on a regular basis, need a program to get you back on track, or want to learn how to do a pull-up, Raney can help.

Some of the services offered include:

– Personal training programs designed to your specific fitness goals

– One-on-one personal training sessions

– Small group personal training sessions

– Instruction on how to use the fitness equipment.

Fee:

$40.00 – 1-hour session

$60.00 – 1-hour small group (2-3 people) session

$300.00 – 10 1-hour sessions (if prepaid; no refunds; does not apply to small group sessions)
