Women’s Soccer Adds Eight to 2022 Class

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women’s soccer head coach Jeff Hosler announced Wednesday on National Signing Day that eight student-athletes have committed to play soccer for the Spartans next season.
 
Maddie Brady, Maia Soulis, Maggie Illig, Ella Alati, Isa Agrusso, Allie Mairn, Emerson Sargeant and Morgan Gerak will join MSU and the women’s soccer squad in the fall of 2022.
 
“With very limited time to put this recruiting class together, I give a lot of credit to the coaching staff for doing such a good job identifying players and building relationships,” Head Coach Jeff Hosler commented. “This group embodies our program’s culture and will continue to elevate our play.”

“This class adds depth in all three lines of play and comes with a fierce competitive spirit that wants to grow all the time. I’m excited to have them join our Spartan family!”

 



Morgan Gerak

Villa Hills, Kent. | Dixie Heights

Position: Midfielder

Club Team: Kings Hammer Academy

 

CLUB: Played for Kings Hammer Academy under head coach Taron Jordon in the ECNL … Attended multiple national ID camps from 2015-19 and two regional national team camps.

HIGH SCHOOL: Two-year soccer player due to club commitments… Named First Team All-Region and All-State her junior year and was once the Cincinnati Enquirer Soccer Player of the Week … District champions and regional tournament finalists.

 

PERSONAL: Daughter of Patrick and Shannon Gerak … Plans to major in Biomedical Laboratory Science … Father played soccer for University of Kentucky and sister plans to play at Kentucky fall 2022.

Hosler on Gerak: “Morgan was a great late find for us and is a proper footballer. She has a really high football IQ, gets into great spots and is dangerous going forward on the dribble and in combination play.”

Ella Alati

Northville, Mich. | Northville

Position: Defender

Club Team: Michigan Jaguars

 

CLUB: Lifelong member of Michigan Jaguars, most recently under coach Dan Diac … Won two USYS National Championships in 2017 and 2018 and two Michigan state championships before moving to the US Soccer Development Academy.  Was a key member of the 2020-21 Girls Academy Champions League Playoff team.

HIGH SCHOOL: Did not participate in high school athletics due to club soccer commitment.

 

PERSONAL: Daughter of Tony and Teri Alati … Plans to major in Business or Marketing at MSU … Parents, grandparents, aunt, three uncles and several cousins also attended MSU.

Hosler on Alati: “As a former winger, Ella brings great attacking ideas and ability to our backline. I’ve always noticed the way she tends to raise her level of play in big moments and is reliable.”

Sylvania, Ohio | Notre Dame Academy

Position: Defender

Club Team: Michigan Hawks

 

CLUB: Played for Michigan Hawks under head coach Michele Krzisnik … 2018 and 2020 ECNL Midwest Conference Champions … 2018 and 2020 ECNL National Playoffs … Ohio North State Cup final four 2017 … National Training Center participant in 2016-17, ODP Ohio state team in 2019, ODP Region II Camp 2019.

HIGH SCHOOL: Did not participate in high school athletics due to club soccer commitment.

 

PERSONAL: Daughter of Joseph and Christine Soulis … Plans to major in Finance … Sister Madison also attends MSU.

Hosler on Soulis: “Maia continues to make great strides and has grown into an everyday standout back for one of the top clubs in the country. She’s dependable, tough to beat and very good in the buildout and in possession.”

Allie Mairn

Grand Rapids, Mich. | Forest Hills Central

Position: Defender

Club Team: Michigan Hawks

 

CLUB:  Played for Michigan Hawks under coach Michele Krisnik … U18/19 ECNL Champions League 2021 … U17 ECNL National Playoffs finalist in 2019 … US Developmental Academy Playoff Finalist in 2016, 2017 and 2019 … Named to Todrawersoccer.com “Top 150 Class of 2022”, No. 16 in the Great Lakes region … Played for the US Youth National Futsal team and was the leading goal scorer, 2016-18 … Invited to the 2020 National Team … Played for the ABK Futsal National Team in 2019-21 … Named to the women’s pro team in 2019-21 … Developmental Academy National Champions in 2017, 2020 and 2021 … USA Futsal Top 12 Team 2019, played internationally … Played for the 2019 Generation Adidas Michigan Hawks team.

HIGH SCHOOL: Did not participate in any high school sports due to club soccer commitment.

 

PERSONAL: Daughter of Todd and Theresa Mairn … Brother, Max Mairn, is a senior at Michigan State … Father and mother also attended MSU class of 1989 … Plans to major in Communication and aspires to be a broadcaster and work in television.

Hosler on Mairn: “As a center back, Allie brings calm, composure and experience to the backline while already competing at a very high level. She is skilled on the ball, reads the game well and organizes her team as a unit.”

Troy, Mo. | Troy Buchanan

Position: Forward

Club Team: Sporting STL

 

CLUB: Played for Sporting STL under coach Robert Kittner … Missouri State Cup Champion in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 … 2019 Midwest Regional Champion … 2019 National Finalist .. 2020 Girls Academy League … Top 10 Goal Scorer in GA 2020-21 regular season … Selected to the 2015-16 and 2-16-17 ODP State teams.

HIGH SCHOOL:  Three-year varsity soccer player … Named First Team All-Conference, All-District and All-Region her junior year and was the team’s leading scorer … Four-year varsity basketball player.

 

PERSONAL: Daughter of Tamara and Ned Illig … Plans to major in Kinesiology at Michigan State.

Hosler on Illig: “I have always admired Maggie’s work ethic, strength, toughness and humility. She is a proven goal-scorer and a handful to deal with around the box whether the ball is at her feet or in the air.”

Position: Forward

Club Team: Colorado Rush

 

CLUB: Played for Colorado Rush under coach Russell Finch, one of the top 25 clubs in the nation … Was named an ECNL Mountain Region Conference Selection player when playing with Real Colorado.

HIGH SCHOOL: State Champions and the Colorado 5A Player of the year her junior year (Spring 2021)… Earned two varsity letters as a member of the soccer team … was named First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-State her freshman year, First Team All-State her junior year.

 

PERSONAL: Daughter of Jeremy and Kimberly Brady … Plans to major in English or Education … Enjoys spending time with friends and family as well as traveling … Aspires to become a high school English teacher.

Hosler on Brady: “Maddie comes with incredible pedigree through her championship performances in both high school and one of the top clubs in the GA. She’s very smooth on the ball and dangerous on the flank while creating for herself and others.”

Emerson Sargeant

Hartland, Mich. | Hartland

Position: Midfielder

Club Team: Michigan Jaguars 

CLUB: Played for Michigan Jaguars under head coach Dan Diac … Girls Academy Playoff qualifiers in 2021, US Soccer Development Academy Conference Champions in 2020 … Won a USYS Midwest Regional League title in 2018 and were the Michigan State Cup Champions in 2017 & 18.

HIGH SCHOOL: Was a member of her school’s varsity basketball and track team … State qualifier in track her freshman year and broke the school record in the 4×100 and 4×400 … Regional Champ in 2020, All-State, State qualifier and set the school record in the 4×200 and 200 races.    

 

PERSONAL: Daughter of Alyssa and Spencer Sargeant … Plans to major in Kinesiology … Both parents attended Michigan State class of 1995.

Hosler on Sargeant: “Emerson has a great motor and is incredibly versatile in both her skill set and position. She understands how to control tempo and can impact the game in many ways on both sides of the ball.”

Isabella Agrusso

Clinton Township, Mich. | Marian

Position: Defender

Club Team: Nationals

 

CLUB: Played for Nationals from 2016-present under coach David Robertson … Won a Girls Academy National Championship with the team in 2021 … Selected to the “Best XII”  in the 2021 Florida showcase … Chosen as a TDS weekend standout three times at National events…State Cup finalists in 2017 … Participated in Olympic Development program for one year, made the state team and was invited to the 2017 regional camp.

HIGH SCHOOL: Four-year member of the Marian track and cross-country teams … All-Region and state championship qualifiers her freshman year … All-Region and regional champs her sophomore year … All-County, All-Region and regional champions her junior year.

 

PERSONAL: Daughter of Michael and Lizbet Agrusso … Undecided in her major at Michigan State … Enjoys playing the piano and running.

Hosler on Agrusso: “This kid can fly up and down the line and is lethal overlapping in the attack. Isa is a passionate, determined player that is dedicated to a growth mindset. She is a proven winner as a GA National Champion and will give her best each time out.”
