11 Oct Women’s Soccer: Bieda Selected MIAC Athlete of the Week
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College senior forward Alice Bieda (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) was named the MIAC Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 10, the conference announced today. Bieda scored all three of the Scots’ goals in two games last week.
In a non-conference game against UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday, Bieda tallied the game’s first goal in the 54th minute off an assist from senior Hannah Conner (Madison, Wis./Madison West). She then scored an insurance goal that was assisted by junior Lucy Grochulska (Henrico, Va./Henrico) in the 87th minute to give Macalester a key regional victory. Then on Saturday, with the Scots trailing MIAC-leading St. Catherine late in the second half, Bieda struck again with an unassisted goal in the 88th minute to force overtime. The game ended in a 1-1 tie, giving Macalester an important point in the MIAC standings.
An All-MIAC honorable mention selection in 2019, Bieda leads the Scots so far this season with six goals, which ranks fifth in the MIAC. She now has 15 goals and an assist for 30 points in her career at Macalester.
Bieda and the Scots host St. Scholastica on Tuesday, Oct. 12. The MIAC match begins at 7:30 p.m. at Macalester Stadium.
