Women’s Soccer: Macalester Drops Game Against Bethel

St. Paul, Minn.– The Macalester College women’s soccer team played at home against Bethel. It was a back-and-forth game, but the Royals came out on top, 1-0. Macalester’s record is now 5-3-1 (1-3-0 MIAC).

The game started off with both sides getting a feel for the game. In the 15th minute, the Royals took a 1-0 lead, after a shot from the top of the eighteen. The Scots looked to answer back, seven minutes later with a shot from junior Sarah Hamilton (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) that went just wide. Right at the end of the half, sophomores Ella Thomsen (Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto) and Mia Brisbin (Los Angeles, CA/Crossroads School) each took shots, with Brisbin’s saved by the Royals’ keeper, Izzy Smith.

The Scots looked to level the score quickly in the second half. In the 49th minute, senior Alice Bieda (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) had her shot saved by Bethel. The Scots kept Bethel’s keeper on her toes the second half, with shots from Brisbin and Hamilton forcing saves.

Though the Scots pressed forward, they could not pull back a goal and fell 1-0. Macalester’s next game will be Saturday, Oct. 2. They travel to play Hamline with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.
