ROCHESTER, Mich. – Coming off a full week of training, the IUPUI women’s soccer team will return to action on Saturday (Oct. 2) when the Jaguars take on Oakland University at 4:00 p.m. on ESPN+. IUPUI (2-8-1, 1-3 HL) is still seeking the right combinations as the league season nears its midpoint.

Head coach Chris Johnson‘s team has had stretches where the offense is clicking and the defense has been porous. Conversely, there have been other stretches when the offense has been stagnant and the defense has been stiff. Rarely have the two been in sync though.

Offensively, Elizabeth Bueckers has powered the attack, scoring six of the team’s 11 goals. Both Maya Lacognato and Sam Slimak have a team-high two assists. Johnson has shuttled bodies in and out of the lineup in an effort to find the right connection. Freshman Abbey Renner tallied from a forward position off an assist from Jessica Jacobs in the loss at Wright State. Both were making their first starts of the year and Renner, who was recruited as a defender, showed versatility by her ability to get in the attack.

Bueckers, Lacognato, Autumn Weeks and Makenna Collins are the only four Jags to have started all 10 games while three different goalkeepers have seen action. AP Woodall is the team’s No. 1 option, having made eight starts with a 2.15 goals against average and 64 saves. Ashton Kudlo filled in admirably in two starts, allowing just one goal for a 0.49 goals against average and eight saves. Emily McGrath also has a scoreless 45 minutes to her credit on the year.

IUPUI was picked to finish fifth in the league according to the preseason poll released on Aug. 18: Read More

Oakland is 4-7-1 overall, but has begun Horizon League play at 3-0-1. The Golden Grizzlies have been outscored 22-16 on the year and outshot by two shots per game, but have outscored foes by an 11-1 margin in league play.
