29 Jun Women’s Soccer’s Gonzalez to Train with Dominican Republic National Team
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Women’s soccer senior Kat Gonzalez will head to Panama on July 1 to train with the Dominican Republic Women’s Soccer National Team in its upcoming camp.
“Coach Swan has been talking to me to see if I’d be interested in playing with the Dominican National Team,” Gonzalez said. “He got in touch with some people and they contacted me about going to training in Panama. This has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl and I can’t believe it’s happening.”
Gonzalez played in eight contests for the Herd in her first season in Huntington. She fired 12 shots, including on target against Florida Atlantic on March 5, and collected an assist against Middle Tennessee on April 9.
During her time in Panama, the Dominican National Team has a pair of friendlies scheduled with Nicaragua and Panama.
“I’m excited to play for my country, see if I can make any changes and move forward with them,” Gonzalez said. “It’s incredible. It’s not only for me anymore, it’s for a whole country. They’ll be watching and it’s very important to perform well.”
